You may think joining a running group in the winter would be the last thing on people's minds, but Plymouth City Council’s Sports Development Unit say different. Over the years they have successfully set up and supported many running clubs in the city and say this is a very popular time of year to get people running!

Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith said: “Our running clubs are hugely succesful and have helped hundreds of people to get fit and active over the last few years. Many people who start off saying they can’t run are soon able to take part in city events like Race for Life, Plymouth 10K or even the Plymouth half marathon.”

There are running groups available to suit all ages and abilities. So even if you’re not confident there will be a group that’s right for you.

Louise Kelley from the Sports Development Unit said “Beginners love to start running in the dark when no-one can see them. Running fits with a lot of peoples busy lives and with sessions costing as little as £2 a person it’s an activity most people can enjoy. With Christmas just around the corner the motivation for people to get fit and feel fabulous on a budget is met with a lot of enthusiasm.”
