While the upper Guildhall is filled with dancing and live music, tea and cake is served in the Vintage Tea Room and on the mezzanine floor, an Independent Living Zone providing the opportunity to meet and talk to people and organisations that offer support, services and products that enable independent living.

June Gamble, Coordinating Producer, Plymouth Dance said: “The Tea Dances with a Twist! events over the summer at Plymouth’s iconic venue Plymouth Guildhall have been afternoons of pure joy for all involved.

We are delighted to be working in partnership with Miss Ivy Events and thank our current partners, CityBus, The Duke of Cornwall, Plymouth Culture and Arts Council England for their support.

Attracting more than 100 people at each event, the feedback from those attending has been extremely positive with requests for the project to continue on a monthly basis.

So, we continue to look for more partners to help us to present more events in the future. If your organisation would like to become a Tea Dance with a Twist! partner, please do not hesitate to contact us.”

Tea Dance With A Twist! aims to improve health and wellbeing through participation in a social and physical activity.  The project is specifically targeted at over 50s and looks to encourage community cohesion bringing different people together. As well as being open to the general public, Plymouth Dance is actively promoting these events to people living with disabilities, Parkinsons, dementia or any other medical condition that they may feel prevent them from fully accessing other dance classes and opportunities.  The aim is to work in partnership with other dementia friendly organisations to help Plymouth become a dementia friendly City.

Tea Dance With A Twist! is run by Plymouth Dance. Plymouth Dance connects creates and celebrates dance by raising awareness of dance through marketing and social media and co-designing and delivering citywide partnership projects that use dance as a vehicle for change www.plymouthdance.org.uk
