A radiographer who was raised and educated in Plymouth has returned to his home city to be a radiographer at one of the region’s most popular hospitals.

Jack Fordham-Smith has joined the busy radiology team at Practice Plus Group Hospital Plymouth (formerly Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre).

Raised in Plymouth, where he attended Torbridge High, Jack achieved a BTEC Level 3 in Forensic Science at City College Plymouth before studying for a degree in Diagnostic Radiography at St George’s University of London. Around half of his degree was spent in clinical placements in and around London and short term specialist placements in hospitals such as Great Ormond Street.

In his role in Plymouth he maintains an up-to-date theatre list for the department, teaches and mentors students from the University of Plymouth on placement and is Health and Safety lead for the department.

Commenting on his role Jack Said: “I am delighted to be back in my home town, working at an outstanding hospital and providing diagnostics services to the people of Plymouth and beyond.

Vanessa Squibb, Radiology Manager at the hospital, added: “We are very pleased to welcome Jack to our team of three radiographers. We support our colleagues in this hospital and local NHS trusts with high quality diagnostic imaging services. We are recruiting for a fourth radiographer to complete our team.”

Since March last year the team at Practice Plus Group Hospital Plymouth have constantly changed the way the hospital operates to support the local NHS trust and its patients through the pandemic.

The hospital’s teams ask that patients attend on their own unless there is a genuine reason for someone to accompany them, for example as a carer, interpreter or other supporter. If you do need to be accompanied please let them know prior to attending your appointment.

Patients can be assured that all treatments and appointments take place in a COVID-secure environment.

Practice Plus Group Hospital Plymouth was the first hospital of its kind to be rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.

The hospital is popular with patients. Comments from its Facebook page include: “Thanks for my wonderful care”; “Amazing place”; “They made me feel in safe hands”, and; “Excellent from the moment I stepped through the door.”

As well as recruiting for another radiographer to join its radiography team, the hospital also has a number of other vacancies, clinical and non-clinical. Vacancies are updated regularly and can be seen here - www.plymouthpeninsulahospital.co.uk/health-professionals/your-career-in-healthcare/
