Two of the finest folk music performers and song leaders in the South West will lead an interactive event for the under-fives at the City Museum and Art Gallery on Friday 31 January.

‘Nice Warm Socks and Other Songs’ will be led by Paul Wilson and Sarah Owen from Devon-based educational charity Wren Music. Their performance will feature songs from a range of projects they have been involved with as well as some brand new tunes.

Children will not only be able to listen to Paul and Sarah but will also be encouraged to join in with singing and creating an instant band of their own. Wren Music will provide some instruments but youngsters can also take along anything they may have themselves.

The Nice Warm Socks event is part of the Museum’s ‘Adventures in Music’ series, which is supported by PRS for Music Foundation’s New Music Plus…UK and offers a fun introduction for pre-school children and their grown-ups to different types of music, instruments and cultures.

“So far all the audience feedback for ‘Adventures in Music’ events is that people would recommend it and had a really enjoyable time. This event promises to be no different” said Producer, Danielle Rose. “Participants will get to hear traditional Westcountry folk music from Paul and Sarah on the guitar, piano-accordion and fiddle. The two of them, with some help from the audience, may even make up a new song or two!

"An enjoyable part of these events is always the children joining in. They're welcome to have a go on the instruments provided or bring along anything from shhooshhing shakers and tinkling tambourines to strummed stringy things.”

Tickets for the event, which will run from 11am to 11.45am, are £4.50 per adult and £3 per child. Places are limited and advance booking is strongly recommended. Tickets can be purchased from the City Museum and Art Gallery’s Welcome Desk between 10am and 4pm Tuesday to Saturday by cash or cheque. They can also be purchased online from www.wegottickets.com. Any additional accompanying children under the age of two will not need a ticket.
