From literature and heritage crafts to contemporary art and community-led showcases, the region invites locals and visitors alike to immerse themselves in a cultural feast.
ArtMakers is proud to be part of this vibrant landscape, joining forces with fellow organisers to spotlight the artistic energy flowing through our coastal towns and countryside. Here are four unmissable standout events:

Running from 27 September to 26 October, Mellow is ArtMakers’ latest exhibition, featuring works by the New Atlantic Wave collective. Expect autumnal hues, reflections on the passing of time, and a calming blend of paintings, sculpture, prints and textiles—all inspired by the season of “mellow fruitfulness”. View the exhibition online from 27 September or visit in person at 24 The Quay, Bideford.
Appledore Book Festival
From 12–21 September, Appledore transforms into a literary haven, welcoming authors such as Rose Ayling-Ellis, Michael Morpurgo and Paula Hawkins. With talks, workshops and a magical family fun day, this festival celebrates storytelling by the sea. ArtMakers will also be in attendance, displaying local creative talent and running a ‘Self Publishing’ workshop. Explore the full programme.
