Daniel Compton,14, has raised £125.08 by organising a football match at his school and kindly donated the money to the children’s wards at Derriford Hospital.

After his three year old brother had to stay on the children’s ward, Daniel decided to organise the event to give something back.

Daniel said: “I organised a football match event at my school, which was teachers versus kids, to raise money for the children’s wards at Derriford Hospital, as my three year old brother was struck down with pneumonia and a lung infection.

“It was upsetting to see my brother when he was really ill and I found it hard to keep to normal activity every day. As my brother got better and everything went back to normal, I wanted to do something to say thank you.

“The doctors and nurses were brilliant with my brother; they helped him to get better and also fully supported my mum and dad through a difficult time.

“I would like to thank everybody who contributed and took part in the football match and again to the doctors and nurses for helping my brother.”

Sue Rodgers, Play Specialist Team Leader said: “‘The Children’s Happy Hospital Fund and the wards would like to thank Daniel for all of his hard work in organising and participating in the football match.

“He has worked really hard and the staff and children appreciate what his donation can do.  It is lovely to think that he appreciated the work the staff did to help his brother and that he felt he wanted to do something to acknowledge this. Not only has he raised money, he has also put smiles on our faces.”
