Following on from the last 'Music for Mesothelioma' event held in April 2016 which was a huge success, popular local band Jessica and the Rabbits once again joined forces with the South West Mesothelioma Support Group to raise awareness and funds for those affected by asbestos related cancer.

‘More Music for Mesothelioma’, which was held on Friday 17th February at The Duke of Cornwall Hotel in Plymouth, was proudly sponsored by local asbestos specialist solicitors Wolferstans and raised an amazing £1,120. The event was organised by Wally Wright and Dean Cruickshanks, with assistance from Stacy Thorn, Sandra Symons and Angela Agnew.

Wally said:

‘On behalf of everyone at the South West Mesothelioma Support Group, huge thanks to the band and our sponsors for their generosity and much valued support. Also to everyone who attended the event or helped make the evening such a memorable occasion. It was fabulous to see so many people coming together to help support people in our region who suffer from this dreadful disease for which there is currently no cure. A great time was had by all listening and dancing to music sung and played by a fantastic band. We're looking forward to a 'More Music for Mesothelioma' in the not too distant future!'

Once exposed to asbestos, symptoms can take anywhere between 20 and 50 years to develop at which point it can give rise to a multitude of conditions such as mesothelioma, lung cancer, pleural thickening and asbestosis. Symptoms generally include a persistent cough, breathlessness, fatigue and pain in the chest and once symptoms start it is essential to seek advice from a specialist.

The South West Mesothelioma Support group holds monthly meetings in Plymouth and Truro for those diagnosed or affected by mesothelioma plus other asbestos related conditions. New members are always welcome. Anyone requiring information about the support group can contact mesothelioma clinical nurse specialist Christine Jones on 01752 763665 or christine.paterson4@nhs.net. The group and forthcoming events can also be found on Twitter @SWMesoSupport and Facebook.

Wolferstans are available for free home visits and free advice on any asbestos disease matters and can be contacted on 01752 292362.
