Free audiobook service for Plymouth residents
The national charity Listening Books runs an audiobook library service for people who find it difficult to read or hold a book due to an illness, disability, mental health issue or learning difficulty such as Dyslexia.
Adults and children who have difficulty reading printed books can find themselves missing out on all the benefits that literature can bring. If you or a member of your family struggles to read printed books in the usual way, audiobooks are a great alternative!
The charity has recently received funding to offer a number of FREE memberships to adults and children living in Plymouth who would find the usual membership fee a barrier to joining the service.
A membership to Listening Books provides access to thousands of audiobooks in a format to suit you. Titles are available on MP3 CD, as downloads from the website and through online streaming. The online service can be accessed on PCs, Macs and portable devices such as tablets or Smart Phones to listen on-the-go.
The library boasts fiction, non-fiction and educational titles (for age 7 upwards) and books from bestselling authors such as James Patterson, Philippa Gregory, Jacqueline Wilson, JK Rowling and Marian Keyes.
For older members, audiobooks can provide companionship, relaxation and comfort while, for younger members, they can open up the world of learning and allow them to experience the joy of getting lost in a great story.
Membership fees usually range from £20 to £45 per year but the charity regularly applies for funding to provide free membership places for those who would find it difficult to pay this fee.
To take advantage of this opportunity, please contact Joanna Cord on 020 7407 9417 or jcord@listening-books.org.uk
