Devon based Playground Arts invites the community to help keep creativity alive through UNWIPED, its growing Young People's Theatre and an inspiring summer of creativity
As Playground Arts CIC prepares to take over The Mansion in Totnes as part of this year's Totnes Fringe Festival, the organisation is inviting the community to experience its bold new production UNWIPED, support its Crowdfunder campaign, and discover the transformative opportunities it offers young people through its Young People's Theatre, which runs weekly in Totnes at The Mansion and Buckfastleigh at the Moor Imagination Centre (MIC), as well as its upcoming Summer School.
Playground Arts CIC is a non-profit Community Interest Company dedicated to creating safe spaces where children and young people can explore, co-create and play. Rooted in physical theatre, movement and immersive storytelling, Playground champions individual expression, inclusive creative collaboration and generous sharing, helping young people develop confidence, creativity and a genuine sense of belonging across the South Hams.
Leading the organisation is Sarah Veevers, Artistic Director of Playground Arts CIC. Trained in Contemporary Dance at The Place (London School of Contemporary Dance), Sarah has spent more than two decades performing, choreographing and mentoring young people through movement and physical theatre. Her vision has shaped Playground Arts into a vibrant creative community where imagination, collaboration and play are at the heart of every project.
This July, Playground Arts presents UNWIPED, an ambitious, immersive performance created especially for the Totnes Fringe Festival. Performed by a remarkable multi-generational cast aged six to 86, the production transforms The Mansion, Totnes, into a living theatre experience inspired by the memories and stories of local residents.
Sarah Veevers, Artistic Director of Playground Arts CIC, said: "At Playground Arts we believe everyone deserves a safe space to explore, co-create and play. UNWIPED celebrates the stories that connect us across generations while giving young people the confidence to find and share their own voices.
"We hope audiences will not only enjoy the production but also help us continue creating these life-changing opportunities for children and families across the South Hams."
To help secure the future of this work, Playground Arts has launched a Crowdfundersupporting UNWIPED and its wider programme of accessible community arts projects. Every donation helps the CIC continue delivering high-quality immersive theatre, expand opportunities for young people and ensure that creative experiences remain accessible to local families.
