What’s more, it will cost a fraction of jetting off elsewhere. Whether you wish to enjoy a jam-packed city break, an outdoors activity-based holiday or an entertaining trip to the seaside, the UK has a whole host of opportunities on offer. If you are looking to spend a holiday in the UK this year, there are some of the key destinations you should visit?
1. Devon
It goes without saying that Devon is a firm favourite when it comes to the traditional British holiday by the seaside. Towards the north coast, you will discover the beach resorts of Ilfracombe and Woolacombe. The latter of which is home to 3-mile-long golden sands and impressive waves; making it a popular destination for surfers in particular. Further south of the region, you will find the vibrant resorts of Dartmouth, Plymouth and Exeter. Discover the ‘nearest beach to me’ dependent on where you wish to stay in Devon.
2. Llandudno
This historic seaside town of Llandudno in Wales is a real gem for a family mini break. The Victorian pier showcase classic architecture and is home to traditional Punch and Judy shows, gifts and arcades to pass the day away, should there be any spot of rain. You may also wish to pay a trip to the Oreil Mostyn Gallery or the Venue Cymru to see the most famous bands and blockbuster films. The resort is also extremely close to Snowdonia, which makes this destination an ideal choice if you wish to combine your love of outdoor activities with a traditional seaside getaway.
3. Isle of Wight
If you wish to have that feeling of a trip abroad, why not pay a trip to the Isle of Wight? You will reach here by a short ferry trip, so it is almost a home away from home. It is an ideal spot for beach lovers, due to the extensive stretches of golden sands, and it is also spot-on for those who love to try their hand at outdoor activities such as cycling and trekking.
Keep the children entertained at the Robin Hill Country Park, take a ride on the steam railway or get up close and personal with animals by visiting the Isle of Wight Zoo.
4. Yorkshire
Yorkshire is a great option for couples or families alike. The historic city of York holds some of the most fascinating tales of the medieval world. Surrounded by ancient walls, the iconic York Minster is situated at the very heart of the city.
If you are looking for more of a family holiday, you cannot go wrong with a drive out to Scarborough, located on the Yorkshire coast. Here you will discover an array of family-fun activities such as the traditional penny arcades, the sea-life centre or a day relaxing on the incredible golden beach, of course.
