The REI will be hosting a launch event for their new Eye Movement clinic on Friday 25 April 2014 at the Post Graduate Medical Centre in Derriford Hospital.

As part of the event, Professor Chris Harris (Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Plymouth) and members of the clinical team will give a series of talks on the eye movement disorder, nystagmus between 1pm and 4pm.

The event is open to both the medical community and members of the public and will feature demonstrations of the new diagnostic devices, including the new Eyelinks Eye Tracker, which was funded by nystagmus charity, In-vision.

Julie Owen, Head Orthoptist said: “The new equipment will enhance our clinical assessment and our management of specific eye movement problems, but also provides essential data for research into a condition called infantile nystagmus, which may effect as many as 1 in 1,000 children.

“This event is intended to say a huge thank you to the REI League of Friends and In-vision for the kind donations, which have made the new clinic possible. We would like to reach out to both parents and the local medical community to raise awareness of the condition and how our new service can offer support“.
