Patients suffering with voice problems were extremely happy with their voice therapy at Derriford Hospital, according to a recent survey.

32 patients were invited to complete a Therapies Outpatient Survey for the Speech and Language Therapy Voice Clinics, which were run by Speech and Language Therapists Melanie Hilton Pierce (pictured) and Marianne Bos-Clark, who now works in Exeter.

The result was an overall satisfaction of 98.49% and many favourable comments were received. One patient wrote “I thought I was going to be stuck with a croaky voice that would quite often fail completely, but now I am nearly back to 100%. I now know what to do to manage my voice and have had the workings of the voice explained in such a way that I can feel what I’m doing. THANK YOU!”

Melanie said: “We are delighted with this feedback. We already have good treatment outcomes but these results also show the positive impact and experience voice therapy provides for our patients.”

These clinics operate in the Speech and Language therapy Department where voice therapy aims to restore normality to patients with psychogenic, functional and organic voice disorders.
