The Treasury Bar celebrates ten years of ‘Leading Lifestyles’

The Treasury, a café, bar and restaurant on Royal Parade in Plymouth, is celebrating ten years of business this July.  From the ‘Betamax’ birthday party on the Friday 19th July and throughout the rest of July and August, The Treasury will be offering people the chance to discover, or rediscover, a bar which has been central to Plymouth’s cultural scene over the last ten years. Or as they put it,"'Leading Lifestyles since 1993."

Established in July 1993, by Ben Shearn, it was launched with a party to remember. Prior to its opening, this type of bar had never existed in Plymouth. The Treasury prides itself on being a  place where you can stay all day - from breakfast right through to afternoon tea and early evening cocktails - and that has always offered something for everyone.

Ben Shearn, proprietor of The Treasury said: “I always wanted The Treasury to be a bar of firsts. We were the first late night establishment of our kind, we were the first offering such a diverse range of premium spirits and cocktails, and I like to think we have stayed true to that ethos.

"We have recently launched our grazing menu which brings dishes from around the world - dishes that no one else in Plymouth is cooking regularly - and makes them available all day as an alternative to a main meal.

"I honestly can’t believe that is has been ten years since we opened – I certainly don’t feel ten years older. But The Treasury has grown up with me – it’s a great place for a family lunch but still an amazing place for a fantastic Friday night.”

Annette – a regular in the bar had this to say: “We love The Treasury and we always have. The team are always so friendly and the service is excellent. We come here most evenings after work because it is the perfect place to unwind after a hard day.”

The Treasury was established in 1993 in a 19th century former treasury building (the giant walk in strong room still exists). Ben has transformed the venue into a unique and exceptional café/bar/restaurant within a landmark listed building.

Friday 19 July sees The Treasury host a live 80s summer party to celebrate ten years – with live music from Betamax and several old favourites in the DJ booth. The event is free to enter and there will be prizes offered for those who come along in 80s fancy dress with 80s haircuts, and a special prize for the biggest 80s ‘mobile’ phone.

Throughout July and August further offers, events and prizes will be announced – follow @thetreasurybar on Twitter or find them on Facebook to keep up to date.

The Treasury is open from 8.30am for breakfast every day. A wide and varied menu (along with grazing dishes) is available all day. Afternoon tea is served between 3pm - 6pm and Cocktail Happy hour (2 for 1) is available between 5pm - 7pm.
