Organisations in Plymouth are coming together to help families struggling with their finances at a family advice and support day this Thursday (6 June).

The ‘Every Penny Counts’ event, which will be held at Frankfort Gate from 10am to 5pm, will provide useful information about managing finances, changes in benefit payments, debt advice, as well as training and employment opportunities for those who are looking for a job.

Around 40 support organisations including Plymouth City Council, Plymouth Community Homes and Devon and Cornwall Housing will be on hand with advice about the changes to Council Tax and benefit changes for those living in social housing.

Other organisations providing support include Advice Plymouth, Family Information Service, Oasis Foodbank, Plymouth Access to Community Learning and City College Plymouth.

Stamps can be collected from each organisation which can be exchanged in the ‘Treat Zone’. Children can jump aboard the Drakes Den Playbus whilst parents can grab a coffee. The whole family can also treat themselves to a free family portrait, taken by professional photographers.

There will be lots of other fun and activities during the day including piggybank painting, having a go at plastering and learning how to grow your own veg.

Visitors can also bring an item of clothing and take part in the free clothes swap.
