Your teens will be able to enjoy a well-deserved break over the summer. But over these months, teens can easily become demotivated and waste their time on their phones or on the internet. However, you can help them develop and make the most of their summer by encouraging them to try out any of the activities below.

Benefits of staying busy

Keeping your teens active can bring plenty of benefits. For a start, it can help stave off boredom and encourage them to unleash their creativity. What’s more, adolescents need at least one hour of physical activity a day – by encouraging them to stay busy you can promote a healthy lifestyle and boost their wellbeing. Overall, your teens will quite simply have much more fun if they’re busy and motivated over the summer.

Family activities

One of the best options is to try out family activities. This could be something as simple as a day out to a local nature reserve or museum, to stimulate your family’s minds. Alternatively, you could go for an exciting day trip to a theme park or the zoo.

Hobbies

Finding a hobby can be truly enriching for a teen. Whether it’s a team sport such as football or netball, or something creative such as art or craft making, there’s usually something out there for everyone. By finding a hobby for your teen, they could be set for a lifelong passion.

Volunteering

Volunteering can provide your teen with a rewarding activity over the summer, while also encouraging them to give back to the community. This could be something casual like working for a local charity shop. Or if your teen is particularly motivated you could encourage them to help out at a homeless shelter.

Learning to drive

Learning to drive is an important skill for any teen to learn in advance of adulthood. This can make your working and social life a lot simpler in the coming years. You’ll probably need to help your teen sort out learner driver insurance as well as driving lessons, but by learning now, you can save them plenty of hassle in the future.

Summer job

A summer job is another excellent way to boost motivation during the holidays. Just encourage your teen to search for a local part-time job that fits around the rest of their life. By enjoying an income for the first time, you can help your teen become more resilient and independent.

The summer holidays represent an excellent opportunity for your teens to develop. And by encouraging any of the activities above, you can help your teens make the most of their free time over the summer.
