All students received lifesaving awards from the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) after months of training and hard work for each award. Awards presented included bronze medallion, award of merit, silver cross - (an open water lifesaving award) and 16 distinctions, the highest award issued by the RLSS. The awards were presented by the RLSS Devon chairman Mr Nick Bradford and the RLSS Southwest Regional Chair Ms Nicky Knight.

Students from the lifesaving club gave an informative presentation about the skills they have acquired to over 130 guests including parents, carers, teachers and the Head Teachers from Cullompton Community College and Tiverton High School.

Paul Drew, Head of PE for Cullompton Community College said: “I recently visited the lifesaving club to assess some year 11 students in both lifesaving and coaching as part of their GCSE in Physical Education, and was hugely impressed with what I observed. It was great to see so many of our students teaching high quality sessions in what was a very inclusive, organised and fun environment. The students have given up a tremendous number of hours achieving their various lifesaving qualifications and deserve a great deal of recognition.”

Devon and Cornwall Police Families Lifesaving Club teaches swimming and lifesaving to young people, some as young as 4 years old. Students gain lifesaving, instructing and teaching qualifications as well as valuable life skills.

Devon and Cornwall Police Families Lifesaving club wishes to thank all those involved for a fantastic evening as they look forward to a full and exciting year ahead.
