City centre set for St George's Day celebrations

Plymouth marks St George's Day with a celebration in the city centre throughout Saturday (20 April).

The Piazza plays host to a day of free family events starting from 10am and running until 5.30pm.

England's patron saint will be celebrated with a full entertainment programme throughout the day, ranging from live music to fun competitions and much more besides

The Plymouth Morris Men will be performing alongside the City of Plymouth Pipe Band. A number of local bands and singers, including former Britain's Got Talent star Michael Collings, will be on stage under the big screen to keep the crowds entertained.

Plymouth's deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Chaz Singh is hosting the event alongside DJ Davy and it will raise money for the Lord Mayor's charity, the Plymouth and District Branch of Parkinson's UK.

There will be plenty of activities for children, plus a beer stall, hog roast and other food. There will also be fancy dress competitions for children and adults, including best dressed knight and great British icons.
