Come along to a Spring Fair with a musical theme being staged in North Prospect on Saturday (April 18) and herald the season with sound.

The event, organised by Plymouth Community Homes (PCH), hopes to encourage new visitors to the neighbourhood, highlight musical opportunities in the city and showcase some of the opportunities now available in North Prospect as it undergoes regeneration by PCH.

It is being held in response to music project iOrchestra’s visit to the area. The scheme, which aims to interest people in classical music, is sending their MusicLab to the Oak Villa Social Club in Ferndale Road. Would-be musicians are welcome to visit the lab between 10-6 on Saturday (3.30-5.30 the week before) and try out a range of musical instruments, learn about the orchestra and join a virtual choir.

Jo Maddick, Regeneration Officer (PCH) said, “It’s a Spring Fare with a music twist. It’s a real collaborative event with everyone working together and contributing and it’s great to see the community thriving after so much change.”

North Prospect library in The Beacon will be holding a craft event and there will be a chance to make your own instruments from nature with Friends of Ham Woods. African drummers will be outside The Beacon from 1-3pm and visitors will be able to join in.

iOrchestra’s Gemma Ward, who is offering a dance workshop on Saturday. “We wanted to challenge people by bringing something different to the community by encouraging people to engage with classical music, something they may not have done before.”

A new café is due to open in The Beacon on North Prospect Road in May and owner will be on hand giving everyone an early taster of what to expect.

In addition there will be a table top sale and local community groups will be showing some of the work they are doing in the area.
