Ska Legend Neville Staple comes to Plymouth
Neville will be releasing on the 17th February 2017 his new album called: Return Of Judge Roughneck (and Dub Specials).
To complement this release, Neville, his band and his wife Christine “Sugary” Staple, will be touring the UK in 2017 and will be playing on Friday 24th February at The Hub, in Plymouth.
Christine, will be doing a short set of songs from her new EP “Rude Girl Sounds” which was produced by Neville and he also provides backing vocals.
Neville Staple, also known as The Original Rudeboy, is credited with changing the face of pop music not only once but twice.
Neville Staple’s thirty-five year career in the music business is well documented, from the early days with The Coventry Automatics, The Specials & FunBoy3 in the late ‘70s and ‘80s, to The Special Beat and various other collaborations during his solo career from the ‘90s up to the present day.
Following on from the 2009 Specials reunion and Neville’s departure from the band in late 2012, he continues to be a forerunner of the ska movement, and continues to thrill audiences with his own excellent band, The Neville Staple Band, at venue and festival appearances worldwide.
“It isn't hard to work out why The Specials lack energy on stage, it's because Neville Staple took it with him” - Steve Oliver - Nottingham Post
Neville’s autobiography, THE ORIGINAL RUDE BOY, was published by Aurum Press in the UK in May 2009. It is an amazing story that tells of Neville’s interest in music in the early ‘60s, his relationship with Pete Waterman (record producer, songwriter, radio and club DJ and television presenter) who he met at a club in Coventry and his rise out of hell into stardom.
In May 2017, Neville will return to the US for a 3 week tour. Neville lived in California in the 1990's and worked with many new American ska acts, amongst them was Gwen Stefanie’s No Doubt. It will be a welcome return for him to visit many old friends.
A well known Californian American Ska/Punk band called Save Ferris, will shortly be releasing a song called New Sound, Feat. Neville Staple. This coincides with another new US single, Rude Boy Skankin, (written by King Schascha, Neville Staple and Christine Sugary Staple), Feat. Neville Staple (with Sugary on backing vocals) has been released by King SchaScha, who is also member of The English Beat (with Dave Wakeling).
Neville has a way with people, he cares about his audience and wants to give them a good time. In return, the crowd are word perfect on every song and each event turns into a party.
“Nothing came close to the sensational Neville Staple Band who really got the party started and had the masses dancing along” - Anita Merritt - Exeter Express & Echo
Neville has also worked on various collaborations over the years, including with The Talks, Flipron, Duplex, co-writing 4 tracks on The Mutants album ‘Rhythm and Punk Review’, tracks with The Dub Pistols and there are many more collaborations in the works.
