REVIEW: CLUBNIGHT PRESENTS ESCAPISM @ THE BASEMENT TORQUAY

Promoter Q and his team at CLUBNIGHT EVENTS nailed the vibe on Saturday 25th April, transforming The Basement at HQ Escape Rooms in Torquay into an intimate, euphoric throwback with their latest instalment, Escapism. This wasn’t just another night out—it felt like stepping straight into a proper old-school house party, where the energy never dipped and the crowd came ready, united by a shared love of the golden era.

Local selectors DJ B Sides and Reygun delivered a tight, no-nonsense set packed with Ibiza trance and house anthems, digging deep into the archives to channel that unmistakable old skool spirit. The standout moment? A full-room, hands-in-the-air chant to Technotronic’s “Pump Up The Jam” that hit with pure 1989 nostalgia—goosebumps stuff. Fast forward to the mid-90’s and the tempo further lifted with Sandy B’s “World Go Round,” keeping spirits sky-high and the dancefloor locked in a haze of feel-good euphoria.

CLUBNIGHT EVENTS is the brainchild of promoter ‘Q’, whose background in global brand promotion and the music scene has shaped a concept that blends heritage with a modern edge. The aim is clear: to revive the spirit of Ibiza while championing unity, freedom and musical expression. Escapism delivered on that promise—intimate, unpretentious, and powered by nostalgia, proving that sometimes the best nights happen underground, where the past and present collide in perfect harmony.

Ed Akay, Publicist, says: “CLUBNIGHT Escapism was exactly what we set out to create—a night that strips things back to the essence of club culture,” says publicist Ed Akay. “No egos, no distractions, just a room full of people connecting through timeless music. The Basement was the perfect setting—intimate, raw, and full of energy from the very first track. What really stood out was the crowd; you could feel that shared appreciation for the classics, especially during moments like ‘Pump Up The Jam,’ where it felt like everyone was part of something bigger than just a night out. DJ B Sides and Reygun took people on a proper journey through house and trance roots. That’s what Escapism is about—losing yourself in the music, even if just for a few hours, and leaving everything else at the door. The staff at the Basement were fantastic and have created an awesome venue.”
