Visitors to the City Museum and Art Gallery this January can enjoy a busy programme of lunchtime lectures and Art Bite tours.

The Museum’s popular Lunchtime Talks programme re-starts after the festive break with a presentation called ‘Get Your Skates On!’ on Tuesday 21 January. Local author and history enthusiast Di Lawer will discuss how the leisure activity of roller skating was practised from Victorian times in Plymouth up to the outbreak of World War Two.

On Tuesday 28 January Patricia Hodge from the University of the Third Age will talk about the Copley Meal, which is awarded to key individuals for their scientific endeavours by the Royal Society and it’s links with Plymouth.

Both lunchtime talks begin at 1.10pm and last for up to 45 minutes. Admission is just £2 per person and tickets are available from the Museum’s Welcome Desk.

Also on offer this month are two Art Bite tours. The first, on Wednesday 22 January, will be led by representatives from the Plymouth Society of Artists who will show people around their latest exhibition. As the Chinese New Year approaches, a second Art Bite on Wednesday 29 January will highlight the Museum’s China Connection gallery which tells the story of porcelain’s fascinating journey from the East to the West.

Both Art Bites begin at 1pm and last for up to 30 minutes. Admission is free and advance booking is advised by collecting a ticket from the Museum’s Welcome Desk. A ticket also entitles you to a 10 per cent discount in the Museum café after the Art Bite.

Full details of all the Museum’s talks, tours and events are available on he What’s On pages at www.plymouthmuseum.gov.uk.
