May 4th be with you on National Star Wars Day
Once again, thousands of people are expected to visit the Guild Hall, this Sunday for, Plymouth DEV-CON May 4th, the South West’s second and biggest Sci-Fi/Comic Book & Toy Fair Convention, which will run between 10.30am and 4pm.
Following the huge success of their first convention, DEV-CON1, last September, Organiser, Lea Shelford from EVENTS FRONTIER, has said that excitement and anticipation from the public and comic fans, is really high for this year’s event and this looks set to be an even bigger affair, with people travelling from as far afield as the States.
The team from the official Star Wars Association will be there on the day, which will include Darth Vader, Obi Wan Kenobi, Chewbacca and Stormtroopers and there will be an opportunity to have your picture taken in front of their giant mock space ship.
The event is running in affiliation, with the FINAL FRONTIER, South West biggest Comic book store and Plymouth Wrestling Association, who are putting on a Wrestling show the same evening, 6pm–9pm.
Star guests throughout the activities, include Jon St John, the voice of Duke Nukem, which is one of the top selling video games as well as Star Wars actor, Paul Blake, and the possibility of popular Comic artist, Lee O’Conner and Dom Reardon.
The theme of this year’s event is Action Figures, and there will a host of dressed up characters as well as lots of Super Hero goods on sale along with film memorabilia, toys, comics, jewellery, clothing, and so very much more.
Chris Nicholls, from ArmadaCon, another massively successful Sci-Fi and Fantasy Multi Media Convention, running in Plymouth since 1988, has organised a micro-Lego build tournament, with a chance for people to win prizes and Geoffrey and the team form Toys are Us will be there on the day. So all in all there is something that will appeal, to children and adults of all ages alike. ‘The word on the street, is it’s now cool to be a Geek’ and this has come about, due to TV shows like the hugely popular ‘Big Bang Theory’ which has a multi- national fan base, plus, the massive revival of the Comic Book industry, which constantly attracts thousands of new enthusiast. All of this has helped to make reading a really popular pass time again.
Julian from Final Frontier said: “It’s so great, at last Plymouth and the South West have their own conventions, organised by their own local people. Fans and families will now be able to enjoy a fantastic day, without having to pay a fortune or travel miles.
EVENTS FRONTIER have a highly successful reputation for organising these type of events, with more planned. Together we hope that this next one will be equally as popular and once again prove to be a huge attraction to Plymouth and help to bring the whole City together.
Stefan Krause, Plymouth City Centre Manager said: “We are delighted that Final Frontier is bringing such a large scale event to the city centre. This will be a great opportunity for visitors to meet film and TV stars, collect memorabilia and see comic artists at work.”
