Under-fives and their grown-ups will be treated to yet another unique ‘Adventures in Music’ event at the City Museum and Art Gallery on Friday 29 November, when Seckou Keita leads an interactive session featuring the kora (African harp) and the djembe (African drum).

Seckou Keita is one of the leaders of the newest generation of African traditional musicians, fusing the traditional forms and instruments with those of other cultures. An outstanding percussionist and kora player, he will guide youngsters and adults as they sing and create rhythms together and introduce them to the music and instruments of his homeland.

The 'Amazing West Africa’ session is part of the Museum’s Adventures in Music series, which is supported by PRS for Music Foundation’s New Music Plus…UK and aims to introduce pre-school children and their grown-ups to different types of music, instruments and cultures.

Seckou, who has been performing since the age of seven, has had an amazing musical career and showed a great flair for drumming and percussion as well as the kora from an early age. He moved to the UK in 1998 via Scandinavia and has performed in groups and as a solo artist, touring worldwide and releasing a number of albums. He has supported world music heavyweights Salif Keita and Youssou N’Dour and was nominated for a World Music Award in 2001.

Tickets for the event, which will run from 11am to 11.45am, are £4.50 per adult and £3 per child. Places are limited and advance booking is strongly recommended. Tickets can be purchased from the City Museum and Art Gallery’s Welcome Desk between 10am and 4pm Tuesday to Saturday by cash or cheque. They can also be purchased online from www.wegottickets.com. Any additional accompanying children under the age of two will not need a ticket.
