This November, Plymouth is in for a blast of high-energy comedy as Hugh McCann brings his debut show, Ensuite, to Theatre Royal Plymouth. The show, which recently began its UK Tour at Exeter’s The Bike Shed Theatre, is performed by McCann himself with direction from New Model Theatre’s Tom Nicholas.

Ensuite is a coming of age story, following the macbook-toting avant garde of Shoreditch, and Hugh’s attempt to become one. It’s a tale of dreamers, all trying to be unique, together. It is an energetic tour-de-force performance from McCann partly drawn from his own experiences at St Martin’s College of Art.

Ensuite has already attracted high praise from critics with Exeunt Magazine saying, “McCann is an incredibly likeable performer, and this piece reveals that he is also a gifted writer adept at weaving numerous narrative strands into an engaging whole” and The Reviews Hub granting the show four and a half stars, declaring “McCann is a very amiable performer and delivers a hilarious show".

Hugh McCann is an Exeter based writer and performer, recent work includes nationally touring with New Model Theatre’s Static, and his short play Barred was recently produced by Theatre West in Bristol. Ensuite will be performed at Battersea Arts Centre this May as part of A Nation’s Theatre, a celebration of theatre from across the UK.

Hugh said: 'I wanted to tell a story that I feel defines a lot of young people, but I wanted to do it with a sense of humour and optimism, and whilst dark and absurd at points, I believe the trials and tribulations of youth are to be celebrated, which is what I hope this play is - a celebration of reckless youth.’

Ensuite will be performed in Theatre Royal Plymouth studio space, The Lab from Thursday 26th - Saturday 28th November. Tickets are £8 and available by phone from 01752 267222 or online at theatreroyal.com/ensuite
