Days to go before MTV Crashes Plymouth

Excitement is rising with just days to go until 20,000 people take to The Hoe for the spectacular live music event of the summer.

MTV Crashes Plymouth on Tuesday 15 July with performances from chart-topping artists the Kaiser Chiefs, Example, The 1975 and Kiesza.

Doors to the event, organised by MTV and Plymouth City Council, will be opening at 3.30pm with entertainment starting at 6pm and the main acts from 7pm. People are reminded to get there early and be prepared for queuing.

Anyone without a valid ticket will not be able to enter the site, which is fenced off for public safety and public enjoyment. The performances will not be visible from outside this barrier.

Children under the age of 16 years will need to be accompanied by an adult over 18 years, with no more than three children per adult. Photo identification may be required as proof of age.

Roads surrounding The Hoe will be closed throughout the day and people are urged to plan their journeys in advance. The following roads will be closed from 7am until midnight:

• Hoe Road (from the Citadel to Madeira Road)
• Armada Way (the loop outside the Holiday Inn hotel)
• Lockyer Street, (from Citadel Road to The Esplanade)Citadel Road (from Lockyer Street to Sussex Street)
• Windsor Place (access only)

Madeira Road, the rest of Hoe Road and Osbourne Place will be closed to traffic from 6pm until midnight with Notte Street (from Millbay Road to Hoe Approach) closed between 11pm and midnight.

Several car parks in the city will be open until midnight including Drake Circus, Theatre Royal, Civic Centre, Guildhall, Western Approach and Elphinstone. The Plymouth Park and Ride will also be operating until midnight stopping at Milehouse and The George.

Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith said: “You can really start to feel the buzz in the air as everyone is talking about MTV Crashes. The stage is being erected, signs are going up and months are planning are starting to turn into reality.

“This is something very special for people in and around the city and it also marks the 100th anniversary of the ‘three towns’ – when Devonport and Stonehouse came together with Plymouth.

“It is going to be extremely busy and it is recommended that people think now about how they are going to get to the event. First will be putting on extra buses for the Park and Ride service, which is a great option. I hope everyone has a fantastic time!”

The event will be filmed and recorded by MTV and will be broadcast on MTV’s flagship UK music TV channels MTV Music and MTV Live HD and other music channels, showcasing Britain’s Ocean City in over 35 countries, at a later date.
