Theatre Royal Plymouth will be presenting four free performances of Ruth Mitchell’s Coffee with Vera, a solo performance in the form of a coffee morning, in the foyer of TRP on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 March.

The character of Vera Jockleson co-hosts a coffee morning with Ruth and recounts how this form of social gathering was a monthly event for the Ladies Guild at the Plymouth Synagogue, the oldest Ashkenazi Synagogue in the English-speaking world.  Through Vera we hear stories about identity and heritage whilst Ruth tries to connect to her own history by searching for possible Jewish relatives.

A leading actor for over 25 years in 1993 Ruth created the role of Helga, a German Jewish mother in the Verity Bargate award winning play Kindertransport by Diane Samuels. The assumption that she was a Jewish actor gave her the impetus in 2013 to look for cultural connections within her performance of Coffee with Vera.

Ruth Mitchell is a Theatre Royal Plymouth Lab Associate.

This is a FREE event. Tickets can be booked online at www.theatreroyal.com or by calling the Theatre Royal Plymouth Box Office on 01752 26722 for those who wish to reserve a seat.
