Theatre Royal Plymouth, Actors Touring Company and Orange Tree Theatre Company bring Amsterdam to the Drum stage from Thursday 27 February – Saturday 14 March, and on Monday 27 January at 7.30pm it will be streamed online to raise awareness for Holocaust Memorial Day.

Amsterdam is a strikingly original and audacious play by Maya Arad Yasur, a prize-winning Israeli playwright, whose work has been produced worldwide. The production is directed by Matthew Xia and the cast includes Anyebe Godwin, Michal Horowicz, Anya Jaya and Uri Levy.

Everyone knows, all of them … that when all’s said and done, she is no more than a fig leaf hiding the thing everyone else would be much happier never having to look at.

An Israeli violinist. Living in her trendy canal-side Amsterdam apartment. Nine months pregnant. One day a mysterious unpaid gas bill from 1944 arrives.

It awakens unsettling feelings of collective identity, foreignness and alienation. Stories of a devastating past are compellingly reconstructed to try and make sense of the present.

This is Matthew Xia’s first production as Artistic Director of ATC. He was previously Associate Artistic Director at the Royal Exchange Theatre and has won the Genesis Future Director award with his production of Sizwe Banzi is Dead at the Young Vic, where he also directed Blue/Orange.

Tickets are priced at £15 and can be booked online at www.theatreroyal.com or by calling the Theatre Royal Plymouth Box Office on 01752 267222. Concessions are available.

Matinée – Saturday 14 March at 2.45pmPost-show Q&A – Wednesday 4 and Wednesday 11 March
