Plymouth has been confirmed as an Official Team GB FanZone for this summer’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Live coverage of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be broadcast at the Big Screen in the city centre from 5 to 21 August.

Entry to the FanZone is free and there will also be the opportunity to learn more about how people can participate in some of the Olympic sports that are on show in Brazil this August.

Councillor Glenn Jordan, Cabinet member for Transformation and Customer Services said: “We are delighted to be one of only 10 FanZones announced across the country.

“Plymouth fielded a lot of amazing competitors during the last Olympics, who did us proud. Many of us have great memories of watching the action from London on the Big Screen in 2012. Who could forget the great atmosphere while watching the diving, for instance?

“We look forward to seeing our athletes as they take on the world again at Rio.”

Details of timings have not been confirmed yet, but will be announced nearer the time.

The project is a partnership between Team GB and the host venues and is funded through support from official Team GB partners Aldi, Muller and The National Lottery.
