Plymouth’s Theatre Royal is among the nominees at The Stage for the UK Theatre Awards to be held in London’s Guildhall on Sunday 20 October.

The Theatre Royal Plymouth is nominated for the ‘Promotion of Diversity Award’ – an award that recognises the diversity in programming as well as the theatre’s work in creative learning.

The theatre’s creative learning programme works with schools and colleges as well as with children and adults independently of educational institutions.

By working closely with voluntary and local authority services, the theatre manages to bring the creative learning programme to the wider community.

Also in the running is Edward Petherbridge whose performance in My Perfect Mind sees him competing for the ‘Best Performance in a Play Award’.

My Perfect Mind was a Drum Theatre Co-Production with Told By An Idiot and the Young Vic, which opened in The Drum in February.

The role sees Petherbridge, the original Guildenstern from Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, play himself in a semi-autobiographical piece directed by Kathryn Hunter.

Dance Consortium, of which the Theatre Royal Plymouth is a founder member, is also nominated for  the ‘Achievement in Dance’ award for touring Batsheva Ensemble’s DecaDance.
