Plymouth A-level results
As hundreds of students across Plymouth collect their A Level and other Post-16 results today it’s unclear what the results mean for Plymouth.
With the ongoing complex changes to qualifications, and the way in which they are classified by the Department for Education, It is ever harder to compare results with previous years given.
Early indications are that city results have improved again this year with a high number of young people progressing successfully to their chosen destination.
Nationally Higher Education uptake has increased by 3 per cent this year, so even more of our young people will be going on to University. It’s also been good news for vocational, technical and applied results, which enable students to progress to further work based training and employment.
These vocational results in particular have shown fewer young people are not in education, employment or training. (NEET)

Support from their families has played a key role in individuals` success and we hope that they will all be celebrating today. We wish all our leavers continued success as they go on to University, higher level apprenticeships or employment. These results are the culmination of students` hard work and determination alongside excellent teaching and support from school staff across the city.”
Councillor Terri Beer, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “Today's results represent the rewards for two years hard work in schools, colleges and training providers. Alongside the qualifications achieved by students, they will have developed a set of skills for employability and independent living. I would like to personally congratulate all our young people on their achievements and wish them a successful move into their adult life as a higher education student, apprentice or into their chosen career.”
David Maddison for Plymouth Learning Partnership said, “These young people represent the future prosperity of Plymouth and the wider region. We would like to congratulate our students on some fantastic A and AS level results. They represent a huge effort by schools, families and providers and an on-going commitment to ensuring high aspirations. We would like to wish our students well as they go on to higher education institutions across the UK and beyond.”
For any students who have not received their expected grades, or those re-considering their plans, support and guidance on alternative options can be provided by staff in their schools and colleges.
Careers advisers will also be available at the Careers South West (CSW) office in Union Street, Plymouth and sixth form colleges for advice on subject choices as information on other potential options for students, including local colleges and apprenticeships in the area.
