Local men are been urged to show their support to one of the region’s most loved charities and treasured sporting teams.

St Luke’s Hospice Men’s Day Out is Plymouth’s largest ‘men only’ event, returning for a second year on Saturday 21 March 2015 at Plymouth Albion RFC.

The event, sponsored for the second consecutive year by IU Energy, will take the form of an eight-mile sponsored walk across Plymouth City Centre and the South West Coastal Path.

Afterwards fundraisers will be treated to a pint and a pasty at Plymouth Albion's hospitality area before finishing off the day with a game of rugby as the mighty Albion take on Yorkshire Carnegie. This will be followed with the opportunity to watch the Six Nations clash between England and France.

Last year was St Luke’s first attempt at a ‘men only’ event as Senior Fundraiser at St Luke’s, Emma Winter explains: “In 2014 we were blown away by the support. The event sold out and over 500 men signed up, raising in excess of £35,000. This year we have doubled the capacity and hope the men will come out in force not only to raise money for St Luke’s but to show their support for Plymouth Albion. Let’s make it a record home crowd for them!

Emma added: “We are so delighted to hear Albion have avoided entering administration and would like the club to know we will be supporting them for their journey ahead. They play such an important part of our city and this is really reflected by public support for their recent fundraising appeal. They should be so proud”.

Clare Stirling who is responsible for Marketing and Business Sponsorship at Plymouth Albion RFC said: “We are delighted to host the St Luke’s Hospice Men’s Walk at Plymouth Albion for the second year running. Last year was a great success and we look forward to having the men with us for the afternoon to cheer on the team. Plymouth Albion have a long standing relationship with St Luke’s and are privileged to be able to support them with this event.”

Duncan Banks, CEO at IU Energy said: “We’re very proud to be powering Men’s Day Out again this year. Last year’s inaugural event was a resounding success so we’re looking forward to raising even more money for St Luke’s this year together with giving Plymouth Albion a significant boost.”
