A host of agencies and organisations have signed up to take part in a free advice and information evening aimed at supporting small businesses.

The event aims to provide start-ups and existing traders with advice on everything from tax and legal issues right through to loans, fire regulations and apprenticeships.

It has been jointly organised by the Plymouth branch and Devon region of the Federation of Small Businesses.

Among those holding a stand will be staff from the business rates and valuation team at Plymouth City Council and information, advice and training provider Acas.

Clare Judd, team leader of business rates and valuation team, said: “PCC supports this event which is designed to offer support, advice and inspiration to new and existing businesses across the city.

“Plymouth City Council is all about developing growth as a co-operative council, and can offer support and advice on setting up a business, finding a suitable property and what support PCC can offer with regards to Business Rates Reliefs.”

Nick Langford, trainer and advisor for Acas South West, said: “Small businesses are vital to the Devon economy and we’re delighted to support this FSB event.

“Owners of small businesses will have the opportunity to get valuable advice and support on a range of topics, including free advice and support from Acas for those employing people or looking to take on staff for the first time.”

The free event, which has been running for the last five years and each year has grown in popularity, is being held at Endsleigh Garden Centre, near Ivybridge, on April 1 from 6.15pm to 8.30pm.

The event is sponsored by two leading Plymouth businesses, Bright Solicitors and Francis Clark Chartered Accountants.

Advice small businesses will be able to access will include: legal, financial, training, employment, HMRC, VAT, tax, business rates, trading issues, environmental regulations, banking and loans, fire regulations, disability discrimination and many more.

The event is free to attend but registration is essential to assist with refreshment provision on the night. Bring your business cards.
