Former Royal Naval meteorologist Kirk Davidson has come ashore to join Bruton Knowles’ Plymouth office.

Kirk  enlisted in the Navy in 1992 and leaves as a Chief Petty Officer.

He joins Ashleigh Phillips and Glenn Kelly in the tight-knit crew at the Lockyer Street office to boost the capabilities of a team which has already made headway through increased activity levels in both commercial and residential property markets.

Kirk, who lives in Plympton, is looking forward to new challenges ashore after spending the last  22 years in a variety of roles including training, instructing and meteorological forecasting with the Royal Navy.

He said of his move into the property profession: “I think I have timed this move just right as the south west property market is far stronger now and it is an exciting time.”

Kirk began studying for his property degree in 2009 as part of his exit strategy following 22 years with the Royal Navy.

He said: “There is a strong relationship between much of what I was doing in the Royal Navy and my principal responsibilities with Bruton Knowles. Numerous military skills are highly transferable, especially within the context of working relationships.

“Whilst overseas in demanding environments I was often challenged by language barriers, cultural differences and mismatched personalities. I learned how to bring people together. In practice, I have found no substitute for straightforward honesty and integrity. These virtues will be invaluable in the property profession.”

As well as a full time career with the Royal Navy which took him from Torpoint to Prestwick in Scotland and numerous overseas postings, Kirk found time to study for his degrees, help bring up four children and coach a mini rugby team!

Ashleigh Phillips commented: “Kirk has great local knowledge and connections and will be as much at home on the High Street as he was on the high seas.

“Glenn and I have known Kirk for some time and we are delighted to be able to bring him into the team so soon after opening the office.

“A strong team dynamic is very important in a busy, new office and we are confident that Kirk’s skill set and capability will add value for our clients and help our growth; it is very satisfying to be able to recruit locally.

“I admire the fact that he has found time to study for his property degree through distance learning whilst serving his country. That speaks volumes about his commitment, work ethic and time management skills.
