This weekend Pitman Training opened its doors to jobseekers across Devon and Cornwall. Launched by local businesswoman Susan De Mey, the new centre aims to help people improve their career prospects, gain promotions or get back to work.

Pitman Training is the leading British training provider and has delivered vocational training since 1837. However, the newest centre in Exeter is looking to help people create their own history. Located on Commercial Road in the heart of Exeter, a number of excited locals attended the centre’s launch event. Amongst them was former Lord Mayor, Councillor Peter Holland.

“Pitman has helped so many people find their dream careers since its launch 180 years ago. It’s amazing to me because my grandfather, William Holland, took a Pitman course 100 years ago! He learned Pitman Shorthand, which helped him spend most of his working life as an Incorporated Accountant,” explained Councillor Holland. “After seeing first-hand the benefits of a Pitman course, I think the launch of this centre is fantastic news for the people of Devon and Cornwall. It’s companies like Pitman who, after a hugely challenging time, are helping Exeter and the surrounding areas to come alive again.

“The world of work and all its innovations never stands still, and neither should your learning and development. Not only does becoming more skilled help you look for a career, but it can also help you in your current one. Training with Pitman helps you work to a better standard, improve your confidence and affect your feelings of satisfaction, it also makes you stand out from the crowd. Technology and jobs are constantly evolving, so you must invest in yourself and evolve too.”

The new Exeter training provider offers students over 250 self-paced, flexible training courses, which can be started at any time, and completed at a pace that suits your lifestyle. So, whether students are interested in secretarial, Microsoft Office, keyboard skills, book-keeping and accounts, IT or something else, Pitman can help.

“After a really tough year, we’re delighted to finally open the doors of Pitman Training in Exeter,” said Susan. “Pitman is a recognisable name across the world for its wide range of high-quality training courses, flexible delivery, friendly approach, knowledgeable support and innovative thinking.

“Here in Exeter, we provide both in-centre and online courses, which allow students to study anytime, anywhere – which is ideal for working adults or people with busy schedules. Our courses also offer state-of-the-art technology, so whether you decide to sharpen your IT skills or take a marketing diploma, they include the most up-to-date equipment, audio guides, workbooks, and live software. When taking a course with Pitman, you’ll also have access to our supportive learning coaches, who are crucial to ensure you get the feedback, support and motivation you need to reach your goals.”
