Engineering in Exeter: Consultants celebrate one year on & call for more collaborators
Hoare Lea, one of the engineering industry’s most prominent consultancies, celebrates a full year of operating from its Exeter office; and calls for like-minded collaborators to join their vision for the city’s sustainable future.
Since its regional office opening at Broadwalk House in prestigious Southernhay West a year ago, Hoare Lea has brought its global network of excellence to the city by drawing on the expertise of its 1,000+ talented engineers, commissioning agents, and energy analysts.
Exeter Director Steven Libralon says: “Exeter is the thriving capital of Devon, and we were delighted to open our office in such a prime location at the heart of the city centre. We already felt very much part of the city, thanks to our other South West offices, but this past year has demonstrated how we can be much more involved in creating an exciting, sustainable future for this wonderful city.”
The team of engineers and specialist consultants at the Exeter office marked the first anniversary with a celebration event bringing together colleagues and connections from across the construction industry and region. “We were delighted to catch up with friends old and new,” explains Steve. “It also gave us an opportunity to update our guests on the exciting new era for the firm. It's been a very positive year of growth and I was delighted to announce that, in our 160th year, our firm has turned over in excess of £100 million for the first time.”
The firm joined Tetra Tech’s High-Performance Buildings Group in 2021 to be part of a global practice that provides state-of-the-art net zero carbon design, digital engineering, and building intelligence for the future of the built environment. “Being part of the Group means, in 2023, we are even more equipped to build upon our strong and successful history of delivering outstanding outcomes for our clients. Our wider global network means we have all the world-leading expertise and support we need at our fingertips, whilst still maintaining a personal and local presence here in the South West,” adds Steven.
Just some of Hoare Lea’s Exeter-based projects include the Nightingale Hospital, the new Emergency Department at RD&E Hospital, and supporting the University of Exeter with their Electrical Infrastructure strategy. The work they undertake directly supports Clients with their Net Zero aspirations. It also recently continued its Corporate Responsibility focus on giving back to the community; the team of consultants helped fit out a new training salon for Hair at the Academy (HATA), a unique hairdressing and barbering training salon for vulnerable young people based in Exeter.
As Steven notes: “We have many more projects on the horizon and, now looking forward to 2023, it promises to be an exciting future for the Exeter office. The team and I would really like to hear from like-minded engineers, specialists, and built environment consultants who would like to join us for the exciting next chapter in the city.”
Mary Pugsley MBE – Founder of Hair at the Academy said, “We secured generous support and funds from members of Tuckers Hall Charity based in Fore Street which enabled us to buy our new salon but couldn’t afford to fit it out. We called on a number of construction disciplines and it was like a local DIY SOS community project, with generous support from so many construction professionals including Hoare Lea. I simply couldn’t have afforded the cost or achieved the best results for the conversion of the salon without their help which made a huge difference to those who need it most.”
