Crucial local public transport information team move to Plymouth Science Park

A team of five public transport and data experts, whose system provides crucial travel updates across the whole of the south west and beyond, are on the move themselves from their Milehouse HQ, their home for the past 15 years, to sparkling new offices at Plymouth Science Park.

South West Public Transport Information’s remit is huge as it provides data for real time updates for public transport users across the region and it also for the large volume of people who now plan their journeys on-line and via mobile apps.

“We started with a telephone enquiry service,” explains SW Public Transport Information’s Ian Miller. “Calls to us consisted of 99% of our business. Today we only 1% of enquires are made by the phone.”

With such a strong on-line presence, the team’s focus is maintaining journey planners, providing data and real time information planning for public transport systems – which can be found via its website: travelinesw.com

Ensuring quick and easy access to travel information online and on mobiles has been a key driver for the decision to locate to Plymouth Science Park.

PSP has an exceptional reputation for its fast broadband speeds together with the on-site technical team and fantastic IT support systems. With the team feeding so much information out via their creation of a national database, the move to PSP will allow for their continued expansion as the site contains all the last high tech gadgetry – including a bespoke data centre.

“Our business is all about providing comprehensive, accurate information by exploring innovative technology,” says Ian. “We’re all about getting information out there and that’s become the main part of what we do. As such, being at PSP is a more conducive environment for us as it is focused on the development of information technology and our business as a whole – which can only benefit our clients.”

SW Public Transport Information provides up to date information on public travel across Great Britain. The not for profit company is jointly owned by the local authorities and transport companies across an area covering Hampshire and Gloucestershire through to Cornwall.

Katie O'Brien, Business Services Manager at PSP said, "We're delighted that SW Public Transport Information have chosen the Park as their new headquarters.  The relocation will open up opportunities for the Science Park to engage first hand with the technological advances in travel information and utilise their knowledge and experience in developing our own existing Green Travel Plan.”

“We encourage tenants, visitors and conference delegates to use alternative methods of travel to the Park to reduce car dependency and, particularly as a Science Park, to reduce carbon emissions.”
“We regularly engage with the City Council and transport companies.  Travel and accessibility is such a critical issue for businesses deciding where to locate and it's important to us that we support our existing and potential businesses in finding practical, flexible solutions – reduced time commuting means more time to enjoy the great assets which Plymouth has to offer!"
