Tech-minded businesses in Plymouth have their chance to get involved with the new Tech South West initiative next month.

Tech South West Plymouth is being held in partnership with Plymouth Software and will give people the opportunity to find out about Tech South West and have their say on what its priorities should be. There will be also be a series of ‘lightning talks’ on tech topics.

Philip Letts, Chairman of Tech South West, said: “We’re talking with tech leaders across the South West and it’s vitally important that Plymouth is part of that process. Our region already leads the world in ground-breaking technology and innovation including climate science, marine and agri-tech.

“Tech South West wants to support and showcase the great work that is already happening across the many established and emerging companies in the region, and provide a platform to grow the reputation and create opportunities to do better business, attract more investment and recruit the very best talent in the world.”

Latest figures reveal that the South West’s tech sector is growing at its fastest ever rate, with over 10,900 tech companies, 5.2% of the region’s workforce, generating £3.3billion in goods and services a year and supporting more than 135,000 tech jobs.* Tech leaders say now is the time to act and establish the region as a leading technology centre.

Philip Letts (pictured) who is CEO of global technology platform blur Group, based at Exeter Science Park, added: I’m convinced that Tech South West has the potential to help the region build on and showcase its technology credentials on a national and international platform. Now, we are keen to talk to like-minded business leaders to shape this and make it a reality.”

Chris Blunt, director at Plymouth Software, is helping to organise the Plymouth event.

He said: “I learned of Tech South West at a recent software conference in Cornwall, and was inspired right away. To me, the digital economy is fundamental to the future success of the South West. With so many fantastic tech businesses based in our city, it was important to me that Plymouth should be represented and involved in building Tech South West.

“I'm excited to see how Tech South West can expand and showcase the South West's incredible talent and work to the wider UK, and the rest of the world."
