The National Trust has teamed up with Sport England to invest £146,000 into the existing pathways at Saltram’s parkland to provide better access for their outdoor users.

The parkland at Saltram already provides access to amazing countryside which is visited by hundreds of people, who both support the Trust and value the chance to experience and enjoy the outdoors. Thanks to Sport England the Trust now has the opportunity to resurface and make these spaces better for people to walk, run and cycle at Saltram.

There will be 2km of improvements to existing paths in the parkland. 1km of this will be improvements to sections of Route 27 of the National cycle network, and creation of a new cycle track area in a small woodland space that will be suitable for young people to learn to cycle and gain confidence.

The resurfacing of woodland trails will benefit those who already visit Saltram, but thanks to the proposed improvements will be able to do so throughout the year. These trails will be multi-use, so that they will be better for walkers, runners and cyclists. New signage would also be installed as part of the improvements which will allow visitors to enjoy their usual activities on newly touched-up paths, and provide some new routes to help explore the outdoors.

Jez McDermott, General Manager at Saltram said "As an independent conservation charity we look after Saltram so that people can experience this amazing place. Our visitors like to come to Saltram to walk, run, cycle, and stroll with the dog. The park is a wonderful mix of nature, heritage and activity and a great place to get outdoors and get active. By upgrading the paths and signage we hope to enhance people’s experience of Saltram and meet the needs of people who support this amazing place every day of the year."

The National Trust are keen to hear the public's views before submitting a planning application to Plymouth City Council. There will be a series of drop-in sessions in the park's Fennimore Room in the Café on

Wednesday 24th August 5-6pm

Saturday 27th August 10-11am

This project with Sport England is part of a wider 4.5million incentive across the nation across 10 sites to help improve access to the outdoors, more information can be found at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/saltram-pathways
