Sailing adventure opens new role at Ocean Safety
As international marine safety expert Iain “Cookie” Cook embarks on a nautical adventure which will put all his knowledge to the test, the firm he has been instrumental in building within the South West is recruiting for a new role developing the business into the future.
After almost a decade heading up Ocean Safety Ltd’s Plymouth branch, Iain will be spending the next chapter of his life sailing with his wife and two young sons aboard their 44 foot Bavaria yacht “Long Way”.
“I’ve absolutely loved my work with Ocean Safety as it’s put my lifetime of knowledge of the sea and the marine environment to perfect use,” he says. “But things have come together and we’re at just the right time in our lives to set out on this incredible adventure for our family. The boys are 7 and 9 - young enough that we can “home educate” them on board. People keep asking where we’re going and even I can’t answer that - we’ll start in the Med and see what happens.”
Ocean Safety is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers, suppliers and service centres for marine safety equipment and in 2014 became the first member of a new group of companies called 3Si. Established almost 20 years ago in Southampton the business has expanded to open branches in Plymouth, Glasgow & Aberdeen.
“Iain has been pivotal in the development of the Plymouth branch and our South West operations which cover from the Isles of Scilly and Cornwall to Bristol and Weymouth,” says Alistair Hackett, Ocean Safety’s General Manager. “He has led a dedicated team in developing our customer base and supply to the leisure and commercial marine market, as well as promoting the profile of the business across the market sector.
“Our sales and servicing have grown year on year in the area which culminated in the branch relocating to new premises in Langage Business Park in 2015 and Iain must take the credit for this great achievement. He will be hugely missed by his colleagues and customers but all of us at Ocean Safety wish him and his family the very best of luck during this amazing adventure.”
Iain Cook’s departure from Ocean Safety has allowed for the promotion of Nita Walding and the creation of a new SW Sales Manager role
Iain’s departure has allowed Ocean Safety to promote Nita Walding, who has worked with Iain for several years, to Operations Manager and the firm is now seeking to recruit to a new role of Sales Manager covering the South West region.
