The Broadway Plymstock is now full of Christmas cheer following the spectacular light switch on event on Wednesday 22nd November.

Despite, severe yellow weather warnings and 50 mile per hour winds, the centres’ annual Christmas Extravaganza hosted by in Radio Plymouth officially marked the start of the festive season in the centre.

Plymouth’s Got Talent winner, Kallie Hudson headlined the festive event, singing a fantastic selection of chart hits and festive favourites to get young and old alike dancing.

The lights were then switched on by the winner of The Broadway’s school Christmas card competition Erin Clooke, 8 years old from Elburton Primary school who had the honour of pressing the plunger along with Kallie Hudson

The night also saw live performances from a whole host of local artists, appearances from the Plymouth Party Princesses and of course the man of the moment, Father Christmas.

Despite the strong winds, there was also a Christmas Market with stalls catering to any festive shopping need, from decorations and cards to presents and seasonal fayre.

The younger visitors to the centre also had the chance to get their faces painted transforming them into a whole host of seasonal characters, from snowmen to cheeky elves. Visitors were also able to take advantage of special offers from the Broadway’s 35+ stores and shoppers also won some great prizes.

Centre Manager, Mark Berry, said: “Our Christmas lights switch on event is enormously popular, and despite the terrible weather there was still a great turnout”

“This year was a real celebration of local trade and talent and we were so pleased that the local community made it to see the lights switched on.”

As if this fantastic calendar of events wasn’t enough, there will also be festive fun taking place throughout December including a festive photo booth, activities with Santa and a letterbox for children to post their letters to Santa. The big man will then be back in the centre on Saturday 23rd December to deliver all of his replies to the children.

Tricia Duff, MD at Radio Plymouth, added: “The Broadway Plymstock’s Christmas Light Switch on Extravaganza is one of our favourite events of the year. This year atmosphere was electric once again and the acts were truly amazing.”

There will also be great festive prizes on offer through the Broadway Facebook page every single Wednesday as part of the #WinItWednesday activity. Shoppers simply have to like and share posts for a chance to win some great gifts including sweet treats, stationery, toys, vouchers and more!
