Proposals to improve residents’ parking in a number of Mutley and North Hill roads will shortly be advertised by Plymouth City Council.

Pay and display bays in Alton Place, Derry Avenue, St Lawrence Road, Sutherland Road, Welbeck Avenue and Winstone Avenue will be made ‘mixed use’ under the plans, meaning they can be used by resident permit holders as well as paying visitors.

Limited waiting bays on Aplsey Road, Beechwood Avenue and Dale Road will also be changed to residents’ parking bays following the closure of the former eye infirmary.

The changes aim to make better use of on-road spaces and will see more than 100 extra bays being made available to residents, helping to meet much-needed demand in this densely populated area.

Councillor Steve Ricketts, Cabinet Member for Transport and Housing Delivery, said: “Residents in and around these roads often struggle to find parking spaces, while the pay and display bays are not always used. By making them available to resident permit holders, we can maximise the use of limited road space.

“We’re also planning to review our controlled parking zones in Drake, Peverell and Compton (zones S, R and GG) in September and will be carrying out a survey on further potential improvements for these areas.”

The proposed changes to pay and display bays and limited parking bays in Mutley and North Hill will be formally advertised from Friday 2 September. There will be public notices in the Herald and on the affected streets, detailing ways to share your views and there will be 21 days to comment.
