Here we Beaux Cadeaux again!
If you like to buy gifts that are different and individual then the news that Beaux Cadeaux, one of Plymouth’s favourite gift shops, has expanded with a move to a new location will be music to your ears.
Set up at Frankfort Gate by Val and Richard Cass back in 2006 the gift shop has now taken up residence on Plymstock Broadway after moving from the Royal William Yard’s Residence ONE.
A bigger shop means an extended range and Val is enjoying having space to fill with the kind of unique and quirky gifts Beaux Cadeaux has built its reputation on.
“It’s a pretty good way to celebrate 10 years of Beaux Cadeaux,” said Val.
“We really liked being at the Royal William Yard but we outgrew the shop and now we are going to be able to increase the number of ranges we stock.”
One project Val and Richard are particularly excited about introducing is a range of vintage chalk-based paints from Grand Illusions.
“It’s such a great range and we are going to be running workshops in the shop to offer people advice about how to use the paints as well as stocking specially-painted furniture,” said Val.
“It’s exciting because it’s something we’ve always enjoyed doing and we will also be able to offer a paint-it-for-you service.”
Val says being on the Broadway- which has a free car park for shoppers - is proving an unexpected bonus too.
“We’ve been made very welcome - it’s great being part of a group of independent retailers and we are already getting regular customers – and I can walk to work too.”
In addition to Beaux Cadeaux’s trademark free wrapping service Val and Richard are also offering to deliver larger items locally for free and the shop is dog-friendly too.
The stock familiar to regular customers is all there - Jellycat, Sass & Belle, Bomb Cosmetics and DCUK wooden ducks - and vintage-style telephones share space with personalised photo frames and locally-made chalkboards as well as jewellery from Eliza Gracious and homeware and gifts from Shruti.
One range Val is pleased to have been able to expand is the Cornishware which comes in a variety of colours and is proving popular.
“I enjoy sourcing and thinking about what stock we should have in the shop and, being independent, we have the flexibility to be able to respond to customers’ requests and suggestions.”
Val works on the basis that everything she stocks in the shop would be something she would be happy to have in her own home.
“It seems to have worked so far,” she said.
“We are obviously very busy on special occasions like Christmas and Mother’s Day but customers will always find something here all year round if they want to treat someone - or even themselves!
“It lovely when people say they like the shop and how pleased they are that we are back,” said Val.
“Someone came in the other day and said the only other place that sold the quality and range of things that we sell was a shop that used to be in the Royal William Yard - I was pretty chuffed with that.”
