Police are appealing for information about a theft from the Pilgrim United Reform Church on St Levans Road, Plymouth.

Between Monday 12th and Monday 19th September 2016, 15 shoe boxes filled with toys, sweets, stationery, toiletries and money were taken from the rear hall of the church . The boxes were donated by the public to the Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child.

The theft was not noticed at the time as it was initially believed that the boxes had been collected officially. It is not known how entry was gained to the hall.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Kieron Martin said: “This is an especially heartless theft. The contents of these boxes were donated and packed by children and adults from the local area, and were intended to bring happiness to underpriveleged children around the world.

“If you know anything about this despicable crime, please come forward and tell us what you know. It may be that you have been offered items and are uncertain where they came from. Whatever you can tell us, we want to hear from you.”
