2017 Veterans’ Jobs Fair set to be bigger and better
A jobs fair for Armed Forces Veterans in Plymouth promises to be the biggest and best yet, with loads of great opportunities from a range of employers.
The event, which has been organised by Plymouth’s Armed Forces Corporate Covenant, coordinated by Plymouth City Council, takes place at Plymouth Guildhall on Tuesday 19 September 2017 from 12pm to 6pm.
Last year’s jobs fair was a great success, with more than 230 people attending and 50 stands from employers across the city.
Veterans and their families will get to visit company stands, talk about their own skills and experience to local employers, plus there will be workshops linked to self-employment; mock interviews and CV writing throughout the day.
A wealth of local organisations are already signed up to the Corporate Covenant, which aims to help Veterans back into mainstream work when they come back to live in the city, but more are always welcome to sign up. The Covenant has received national praise and was featured in an Alex Polizzi documentary on BBC2 in 2015.
Councillor Glenn Jordan, Cabinet Member for Culture and Armed Forces Champion for Plymouth City Council, said: “The Covenant wants to invite more employers to hold stands at the event, as well as encouraging Veterans and their families to attend to find out about some of the fantastic employment opportunities the city has to offer.
“As a Veteran myself I know how hard it can be to adapt to civilian life and starting a new career, so it’s really important that we continue to do all we can to support local Veterans back into work when they leave the Forces.”
Heather Ogburn, said: “We were really pleased with the success of last year’s Veterans’ Jobs Fair and we had very positive feedback from both Veterans and employers who attended.”
Employers already signed up to the event include Wolferstans Solicitors, Plymouth Community Homes, Babcock International Group, Stagecoach South West and more.
Feedback from employers from last year’s event included:
“Great annual event which has the potential of growing in popularity – after all we are a base port Resettlement area.”
“A very good event which service leavers should be encouraged to attend.”
Feedback from Veterans who attended the event included:
“It has been a pleasure to attend, well done all concerned.”
“Very worthwhile and very informative, should be held more often.”
