NatWest Venus Awards 2017
Local Woman, Kay O’Shaughnessy,
Wins National Inspirational Woman of the Year

Kay O’Shaughnessy is the founder and now Chair of Trustees of local Plymouth Charity – Friends and Families of Special Children Ltd. The group was founded in 2002 by a small group of parents who identified a huge gap in service provision for children with disabilities and their families within Plymouth and the surrounding areas. The group gained Charitable Status in 2005 (Registered Charity No 1140826) and is now one of the main providers of integrated leisure services within the City. Many of the families, who use the services the charity provides, have described it as a life saver.

“We are so grateful we can have unforgettable days out thanks to the events that you put on. We can’t thank you enough.” – Parent, 2016

The charity is continuing to grow and is now looking forward running more fundraising events in Plymouth and the surrounding areas, so that they can continue to improve and build on the services they provide.

Kay has worked so hard to get the charity to where it is now and is a deserving winner of the Inspirational Woman Award at the NatWest Venus Awards 2017.
