The Family Law Company is delighted to announce the appointment of experienced family law specialist, Mark Langsworthy.

Mark, who is originally from the Isles of Scilly, has exclusively practised family law since entering the legal profession in 1991.

After a spell in construction, Mark began working at Hampshire County Council in the care proceedings team, where he was encouraged to study to become a Chartered Executive.

Mark said: “You could say I fell into law by chance after the property crash of the ‘90s, but for me this was the best thing that could have happened.

“I was fortunate to gain lots of experience on the ground at Hampshire County Council, where I gained an immense insight into care work.”

After studying at night school and through day release, Mark was admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in 1998. He continued specialising in care, working both in private practice as well as Plymouth County Council and Somerset Council.

“Care proceedings is a tough area of family law but interesting, as it is all about real life. It’s an important challenge to get the right result for clients who have often been dealt a poor hand in life,” added Mark.

Mark has since acquired extensive knowledge in every area of family law and is a member of Resolution, the national organisation that promotes a constructive, non-confrontational approach to family law matters, with whom he is accredited as a specialist for both Children Law and Domestic Abuse cases.

The opening at The Family Law Company presented a ‘great opportunity’ for Mark. He said:

“When I worked in Plymouth previously, I always found The Family Law Company a straightforward firm to deal with, so I am very happy to now be part of the team.”

Kirsty Thyer, Head of the Plymouth Care Team said: “We are genuinely thrilled to welcome Mark to the firm. He brings with him much welcome expertise in proceedings concerning children and cases where Social Services are involved.”
