RGB Building Supplies has donated £500 to Exmoor Search & Rescue Team’s vehicle appeal.

The volunteer-run charity, which assists the police in locating people who are lost or missing and recovering those who are injured or ill on Exmoor National Park, is fundraising for a new incident control vehicle.

Acting as a base to liaise with the emergency services and co-ordinate rescues, the vehicle is equipped to handle all IT and communications, incorporates welfare facilities for team members to use during lengthy rescues, transports life-saving specialist equipment, and enables volunteers to get to areas in a safe and timely way. A new vehicle will undergo a complete exterior makeover, which includes high-visibility livery, emergency lighting and sirens.

James Taylor Short, Exmoor Search & Rescue Team Leader, commented:

“Exmoor National Park covers 267 square miles across North Devon and Somerset. Our incident control vehicle is therefore vital in helping us to do our job, and our current vehicle has fallen into disrepair.

“We have raised £70,000 of our target, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we’ve had to reallocate some of our funds to the purchase of essential equipment such as PPE and decontamination products to ensure we can still be operational. This means we are short of £5,000 which is needed to help with the specialist kit out. The current situation has also impacted our normal sources of fundraising, so we’ve set up a crowdfunding page to give those who would like to support us a chance to help us reach our target.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to RGB Building Supplies, who support our team in many ways, including this generous Donation.”

Kevin Fenlon, CEO of RGB, added:

“The Exmoor Search & Rescue Team does a vital job in helping our emergency services protect local people and visitors to our region, and we’re delighted to be able to help the charity with its fundraising appeal.”
