Thornleys Solicitors of Plymouth closed on Monday ending 32 years of serving the Plymouth, Plymstock and South Hams communities.15 staff have been made redundant.

The Law Society Gazette reported that more than 1,000 small legal practices in the UK have ceased trading in the past year, and they predicted that the figure is set to rise further.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has identified 495 firms as being at financial risk and they are engaging heavily with 55 firms they have identified as being at high risk of financial instability.

More and more these days local solicitors need to engage with the public and make them aware of the advantages of dealing with local practices. Solicitors cannot sit back and wait for things to get better. They must actively promote themselves and their services so they are the first ones people think of when they need legal advice.
