How would you describe Plymouth in 5 words?
Working to realise its potential.
What brought you to Plymouth?
I was attracted to be the Conservative candidate in Plymouth Sutton for the 2001 General Election as my father had served in the Royal Navy, my grandfather had been the First Lieutenant of HMS Vivid (then the naval barracks) and my uncle commanded the Royal Marines barracks before becoming Commandant General.
Which part of Plymouth is home?
Stonehouse.
Favourite place in (or near) Plymouth?
The Hoe and the Foreshore as well as Central Park.
Favourite Plymouth event?
The Festival of Remembrance on the Hoe – remembering the sacrifices our city has made in defending our country.
What was the last live performance you saw in Plymouth and where did you see it?
The last thing I went to see was the Ten Tors Prom Concert as the Theatre Royal has been closed for the last six months.
Favourite place to eat out in or near Plymouth?
Café India and Jolly Jacks.
Best coffee (or tea) in town?
If I’m out for a coffee then I’ll generally go to Seco Lounge in Royal William Yard.
Favourite pub?
The Lounge in Stoke and the Rising Sun in Compton.
Favourite locally produced food or drink?
Doombar.
Favourite shop?
The Book Cupboard – the Barbican’s second hand book shop.
Favourite shopping area?
The Barbican.
Plymouth Argyle or Plymouth Albion?
I’m a season ticket holder at Albion, but don’t forget the cricket! In the Summer I try to catch as many Plymouth Cricket Club matches as I can.
Beach or moors?
When I have time, I prefer to go to the beach.
What or where is Plymouth's best kept secret?
Its science base and its global reputation for marine science engineering research.
What one change would you like to see in Plymouth?
The transport links to and from London.
Who is your local hero or heroine?
Dame Joan Vickers – former MP for Devonport.
